Historical Facts
Grand Falls is renowned as one of New Brunswick's top attractions with its natural wonder, the famous seasonal waterfalls and captivating gorge. Back in the 1800s, the falls were the driving force behind the local economy with the establishment of numerous wood mills. Today, the falls still play an important role in New Brunswick’s economy: a dam located above the falls redirects the water to a generating station through an underground tunnel built under the municipality.
- Grand Falls is one of only two towns in New Brunswick with an official bilingual name: Grand-Sault / Grand Falls.
- In 1889, near the seasonal falls, the Burgess Mill practiced logging down to Fredericton. It’s now home of the Farmer’s Market and the museum.
- The falls are as high as 23 meters (75 feet).
- Grand Falls has a magnificent 18-hole golf course.
- Broadway Boulevard is the widest main street east of Winnipeg.
